Girls Basketball: L-B posts win over Riverdale
MOUNT BLANCHARD -- Liberty-Benton didn't waste any time taking control of Riverdale and the Eagles rode that momentum to a 53-31 nonconference girls basketball victory on Tuesday.

The Eagles (1-2) opened up a 19-6 first-quarter lead and upped it to 30-13 by halftime in cruising to its first win of the season.

Rachel Myers played aggressively at both ends for the Eagles, converting 8 of 13 free throws en route to 16 points and she grabbed seven rebounds.

No other Eagles player reached double figures.

Jordyn Wright led the Falcons with a game-high 17 points.

CAREY -- Hannah Tong led Carey with 20 points and three other players reached double figures to help the Blue Devils defeat Pandora-Gilboa 63-51 on Tuesday in a nonconfernece girls basketball game.

Sydney Wentling, Makenzie Wentling and Logan Johnson each had 10 points for Carey, which drained 21 of 30 shiots from the foul line.

Hunter Hermiller led the Rockets with 14 points and Megan Maag had 10.

CORY-RAWSON 59

MILLER CITY 53

RAWSON -- Cory-Rawson used an effective pressing defense to generate a big early lead Tuesday night and the Hornets held on for a 59-53 nonconference girls basketball win over Miller City.

Cory-Rawson (1-4), which snapped a 10-game losing streak dating back to last season, turned several first-quarter turnovers into baskets and built a 26-6 lead. However, the Wildcats fought back and made a game of it in the second half.

Cory-Rawson, which had 15 assists, got scoring contributions from several players. Kendra Tuttle scored 18 points, Courtney Dulle 14 and Adrienne Erford 10.

Melissa Michel had a double-double for the Wildcats (0-5) with 19 points, 13 rebounds. She also had five steals. Brandi Gerschutz had 11 points and five assists.

HARROD -- Allen East limited Hardin Northern to two points in each of the first three quarters on its way to Tuesday's 74-15 nonconference girls basketball win over the Polar Bears.

A trio of Allen East (3-1) players reached double figures. Carly Clum led the way with 14 points, Jadin Salyers added 13 and Kaycee Rowe 12.

Michaela Curtis tossed in seven points to lead Hardin Northern (0-4).
