UF Athletics: Taflinger named GLIAC first team
BAY CITY, Mich. -- University of Findlay junior Danielle Taflinger was named all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team Saturday as the league announced its annual postseason awards.

Taflinger, who earned second team all-conference honors last year, led the team with 310 kills and a .352 hitting percentage. Her hitting percentage is the second highest mark in the GLIAC.

The Lima native also had 108 total blocks and 31 digs during her third season with the Oilers.

Junior Mackenzie Vorst earned honorable mention honors for the second consecutive season. Vorst tallied 210 kills, 135 digs and 37 total blocks in 21 matches before her season was cut short due to injury.

Northwood University sophomore outside hitter Juliia Pakhomenko was named the GLIAC Player of the Year, Grand Valley State University outside hitter Betsy Ronda was tabbed freshman of the year, Ferris State University junior Brandie Merren earned libero of the year, and Northwood's Tim Koth was named coach of the year.

White, Tumlin shine

ASHLAND -- Joey White and Andrew Tumlin finished third in their respective weight classes Saturday for the sixth-ranked University of Findlay wrestling team at the Harris Open.

At 149 pounds, White finished with a 6-1 record as he decisioned Campbellsville's Shawn McGhee 6-5 in the third place match.

Tumlin, ranked No. 7 in the 285-pound class, went 4-1 to finish third, and top-ranked Mason True at 165, was fourth after dropping a 6-4 decision to Connor Brancheau of the University of Michigan in the third place match. He finished with a 3-2 record.

The Roughnecks will be idle until Nov. 30 when they travel to Tiffin for a 7 p.m. match.

Swim teams third

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming teams finished third Saturday at the Doug Coers Invitational.

The men had 219.5 points and the women 385. Grand Valley State claimed the men's title with 734.5 points, while Ball State University won the women's crown with 867 points.
