Prep volleyball: Liberty-Benton wins BVC title
Liberty-Benton finished what it started Monday night.

The Eagles' girls volleyball team posted a 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 victory over Cory-Rawson to claim their first outright Blanchard Valley Conference championship to commemorate the 10-year anniversity of their last solo title in 2002.

The win leaves L-B, ranked 16th in this week's Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, 19-2 overall and 9-0 in the BVC.

"Wow, the pressure is finally off," said third-year Liberty-Benton volleyball coach Cristy Gray.

"You win big games and then you think, hey, there are some more big games to win.

"Well, they have won it."

Lone senior Liz Streacker was the toast of the night for the Eagles and she responded with 17 hits and 11 kills.

L-B also saw Rachel Myers go 12 of 13 serving with two aces, 33 of 33 setting with 13 assists, 22 of 23 hitting with five kills and added 11 digs.

Carrigan Gray provided (32-32 setting) 18 assists and 10 digs, Carrie Reynolds (11-12 serving) three aces and 10 digs, Olivia Newton (13-13 serving) two aces and Blair Harmon 10 digs.

Liberty-Benton's title came five season after sharing the 2007 BVC crown with Leipsic and Arlington.

The loss leaves Cory-Rawson 12-8 overal and 3-6 in the BVC.

Kendra Tuttle led the Hornets with 10 of 11 serving and two aces, 62 of 63 setting with 22 assists and recorded 16 digs.

Lexie Gauss had 10 kills on 18 of 20 hitting as well as two blocks and 10 digs. Tessa Heitmeyer also had 10 digs and Jessie Ream (15-17 hitting) had six kills.

Adrienne Erford (10-11 serving) had three aces.

McCOMB -- Hannah Bundy, one of three McComb seniors, was honored Monday night as the school's career leader in digs, registering 38 in the match, as the Panthers completed Blanchard Valley Conference play with a 25-21, 20-25, 25-16, 30-28 victory over Leipsic.

The Panthers, who finished second to Liberty-Benton at 8-1 in the BVC, are 18-3 overall.

Leipsic (17-3) finished third in the BVC at 7-2.

Bundy, a three-year letterwinner along with Briana Herr and Becca Leppelmeier, now has 1,126 digs and the Panthers have posted a 63-7 won-loss record over the past three seasons.

Herr (32-33 hitting) had 17 kills and three blocks against Leipsic with Leppelmeier providing five kills on 9 of 10 hitting. Jenna Huffman was 38 of 39 setting with 20 assists and 25 of 26 hitting with 13 kills. Brenna Dee registered 11 aces to go along with 25 assists on 62 of 66 setting and seven digs. Emily Clymer added 12 kills and 18 digs.

Kelly Nadler led Leipsic with 15 kills, two aces, two blocks and 22 digs. Haley Gerten added 13 kills and 16 digs, with Emily Ellerbrock providing 39 assists.

DOLA -- Laurin Houck was 72 for 74 setting with 26 assists and Adrienne Shepard was 22 for 25 spiking with eight kills as Arlington wrapped up Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball play on Monday by sweeping Hardin Northern 25-18, 25-18, 25-8.

Britnee Johnson added seven kills and Lindsay Werst had four. Erin Helms led the Red Devils with 11 digs and Shepard and Taylor Oates both had five blocks as Arlington (15-6, 6-3) ended up fourth in the final BVC stabnding.

London Crist was 10 for 11 serving and led Hardin Northern with six kills. Becky McElree had a team-high 15 digs for the Polar Bears (7-10, 2-7).

VANLUE -- Four Van Buren players combined for 16 ace serves Monday night as the Black Knights finished Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball play with a 25-9, 25-8, 25-21 victory over Vanlue.

Van Buren (4-14 overall) posted a 1-8 BVC record, while Vanlue (3-16) ended an 0-9 BVC campaign. Brooke DeBusman led Van Buren with six kills, while Sarah Benson had four and Lauren Wise and Brianna Orchard three each. Benson and Elyse Anderbery had six kills each, Paige Sudlow registered eight digs and Orchard provided 13 assists.

Kayla Cornette went seven of eight serving, had five digs, 10 of 12 hitting with six kills and had three blocks for Vanlue. Logan Frey served an ace and Katie Thomas had five blocks.

ARCADIA -- Pandora-Gilboa was carbon-copy consistent on Monday in posting a 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball victory over Arcadia.

P-G's Megan Maag was 46 for 46 spiking with 21 kills and 13 for 13 serving with three aces. Vivian Nofziger was 78 for 84 setting with 28 assists and Hunter Hermiller was 17 for 17 serving with three aces and 32 for 36 spiking with nine kills.

Madison Stuby was 24 for 26 spiking with 15 kills, Julia Pina 25 for 28 spiking with six kills, and Molly Glick 17 for 21 spiking with 11 kills and six blocks to lead Arcadia.

Madie Ramsey was 88 for 88 setting with 29 asissts. Regina Fox led the Redskins with 18 digs and Ramsey and Lauren Conine had 10 each.

Both teams entered the contest 4-4 in BVC matches. P-G is now 13-6 overall; Arcadia is 15-6.

COLUMBUS GROVE -- Kayla Siefker had 11 kills and Bailey Dangler and Alexis Decker each had 15 assists Monday as Kalida suffered a hard-fought 25-23, 25-20, 26-24 Putnam County League volleyball loss to Columbus Grove.

Amy Smith had three ace serves and six kills, Dangler seven kills and Elizabeth Turnwald six kills for the Wildcats (14-6, 3-2 PCL). Julia Vandemark had 10 digs.



PATRICK HENRY 3

MILLER CITY 0

HAMLER -- Ariel Berger and Catie Hermiller each had three kills for Miller City Monday night as the Wildcats fell 25-12, 25-23, 25-6 to Patrick Henry in nonconference volleyball.

Berger and Haley Lammers added two solo blocks and two block assists, Janke vanWezel 11 digs and Kylee Ricker seven digs for the Wildcats (1-18).
