Local roundup: UF women take fourth at Bing-Beall Classic
The University of Findlay women's golf team finished fourth Monday in the annual William Bing-Beall Classic at the Findlay Country Club.

After opening with a 316 Sunday, the Oilers shot a 328 for a two-day total of 642.

Ferris State nipped Grand Valley State 617-618 for the championship of the 15-team tournament.

Findlay's Lauren Vogt tied for fourth in the medalist standings, firing a 76-78--154.

Kelly Hartigan (73-72--145) of Grand Valley State was the medalist.

Brooke Albers tied for 17th with an 81-79--160, while Michele Schambs (80-84--164) tied for 24th.

Kasey Petty (79-93--172), Emily Mock (85-92--177) and Hannah Schneider (96-87--183) also competed for the Oilers.

Brown wins world title

KILLEEN Tex. -- Findlay's Ralph Brown collected two gold medals and a silver in winning a world title in his division during the International Powerlifting Federation World Masters Championships held in Killeen, Tex.

Competing in the 60-over, 231-pound class, Brown won gold medals with lifts of 600 pounds in the squat and 402 pounds in the bench press.

He won a silver with a 529-pound dead lift for his first-place total of 1,531.

Brown's efforts helped the United States team finish first among 23 countries in the competition, a drug-free championship sponsored by the USA Powerlifting Association.

Riverbend hosts marathon

Two out of state runners set course records in capturing the male and female divisions Sunday at the third annual Red, White & Blue Marathon at Riverbend Recreation Area.

Grant Stieglitz of Fort Wayne, Ind. posted a time of 2 hours, 45:31 minutes in finishing as the No.1 runner. Andrea Bonaccorsi of Seattle, Wash. rercorded a time of 3:37:42 as the top female performer.

Sandy Pease (3:56:46) of Perrysburg was the top master female and Matthew Thomas (3:13:07) the top master male.

In the half-marathon portion of the event, Ottawa's Abbie Selhorst (1:27:24) and Aaron Al-Sorghali (1:22:35) were the top female and male entrants.

The top master female was Lori Siclair (1:45:41) of Napoleon with Findlay's Paul McCutcheon running a 1:34:49 as the top master male.

HCAC honors Kaufman

BLUFFTON -- Ben Kaufman of Bluffton University was named Monday as the Heartland Conference Player of the Week for his defensive performance Saturday during the Beavers' 37-34 three overtime victory over Rose-Hulman.

Kaufman, a senior from Ottawa-Glandorf, led the Beavers with 16 tackles, including 10 solo stops. He also forced a fumble.

Bluffton will host Hanover at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for homecoming.
