Prep Softball: Dean's blast lifts L-B past Miller City
Becca Dean hit a walk-off home run to lift Liberty-Benton past Miller City 10-8 Thursday in a nonconference softball game.

Dean was a double shy of the cycle as she drove in two runs thanks to her game-winning two-run homer for the Eagles (5-8).

Taylor Benjamin hit a single and double driving in two runs for the Eagles. Sydney Powell drove in a pair with a two-run single.

Jessica Vennekotter doubled and singled for Miller City (1-6).

VANLUE -- Chelsi Hartman cleared the bases with a third-inning, three-run triple Thursday and Vanlue defeated Hopewell-Loudon 5-2 in a nonconference softball game.

Taylor Kloepfer scattered nine hits but walked none in picking up the win for the Wildcats (5-3). Kayla Cornette had an RBI single.

Lauren Trumpler singled, doubled and tripled for Hopewell-Loudon (3-13). Racquel Hossler doubled twice and singled.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Vanlue will host Columbus Grove in a doubleheader that will highlight breast cancer awareness.

COLUMBUS GROVE -- A three-run fifth inning broke open a tie ball game Thursday as Columbus Grove defeated Ada 7-2 in a Northwest Conference softball game.

Hope Schroeder doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Grove (7-2, 3-0 NWC), which added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning. Bobbi Heckel doubled and pitched a complete-game victory.

Sam Wildman drove in a run for Ada (3-8, 1-3).

DOLA -- Ricci Emahiser accounted for three of North Baltimore's five runs as the Tigers beat Hardin Northern 5-1 Thursday in a nonconference softball game.

Emahiser hit a single and double for the Tigers (8-5) and Jasmine Bretz hit an RBI single.

Cheyenne Hernandez (6-2) allowed just one run on four hits for the Tigers.

OLD FORT -- Cory-Rawson gave up two big innings as it fell 10-6 to Old Fort Thursday in nonconference softball action

Down 1-0 after three innings, Cory- Rawson (1-10) gave up five runs in the bottom of the fourth and four in the bottom of the fifth.

The Hornets' bats came alive in the top of the sixth as they scored five runs. But the Stockaders kept them off the board in the seventh to get the win.

Cory-Rawson's Tessa Heitmeyer ripped a triple and a double with two RBI while Megan Augustine smacked an inside the park homer.

Hali Kimmet stroked a double and a single with two RBI for Old Fort (2-7) while Addison Reineck cracked a single and a double of her own.

CONVOY -- Mallory Bowen and Terra Crowle each had three hits and Kirsten Hicks drove in three runs as Convoy Crestview remained undefeated in the Northwest Conference with a 10-1 victory over Bluffton.

Katie Palte had a double, a single and a run batted in for the Pirates. Mackayla Wilson added an RBI-single.

CRESTLINE -- A three-run rally in the sixth inning wasn't quite enough Thursday as Upper Sandusky fell 6-5 to Crestline in a North Central Conference softball game.

Brigitte Snow and Justeen Searfoss hit home runs for Upper Sandusky (6-7, 2-3 NCC). Miranda Stansbery had a pair of singles.

MONTPELIER 3

MONTPELIER -- Already leading 6-3, Patrick Henry exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to put away Montpelier 14-3 in six innings Thursday in Northwest Ohio Athletic League softball.

Kristen Bostelman went 3 for 5 with a double and four runs batted in to lead Patrick Henry (9-3, 3-2 NWOAL). Katy Hammer and Alexandria Crouse both went 2 for 3 for the Patriots. Katie Kurtz allowed just seven hits while improving to 8-2.

Wendy Duchene took the loss for Montpelier (1-10, 0-4). Haley Suffel went 3 for 3 for the Locomotives.
