UF equestrian teams prepping for nationals
Three University of Findlay equestrian teams will head to national competitions over the next two weekends.

Four students on UF's Intercollegiate Dressage Association team will travel to Mt. Holyoke College in Hadley, Mass. for the national finals Saturday and Sunday after finishing as reserve champion a year ago under the direction of head coach Kelly Theisen.

Also, Monica Martineau, the IDA region champion, and Carly Trimble, the regional reserve champion, will compete as individuals.

The western and hunt seat teams will travel to Harrisburg, Pa. for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association championships May 2-5.

UF's Olivia McConnell is this region's Cacchione Cup qualifier.

The university's western and English were the first teams to earn dual championships in 2001. The western team was national champion in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010, while UF's hunt seat team earned reserve champion honors in 2008 and 2010.

The western team is coached by Cindy Morehead, Clark Bradley and Emily Cramer as well as graduate assistant Andrew Wolf., while Stella Prescott and Eileen "Bud" Roberts coach the hunt seat squad.

This year's western team members will include Bekah Irish (sr.), reining; Ashley Winters (fr.), open horsemanship; Makena Lawrence (jr.), advanced horsemanship; Erica Druker (soph./jr.), novice horsemanship; Ali Gokey (fr.), intermediate horsemanship; Emily Shaefer (fr.), beginner horsemanship.

Western individual qualifiers include Irish, open reining; Melissa MacDonald (jr.), advanced horsemanship; Jared Detrick (jr.), advanced horsemanship; Katie Davis (sr.), novice horsemanship; Druker, intermediate horsemanship; Zac Brown (fr.), intermediate horsemanship; and Tori Trbovich (soph.), beginner horsemanship.

Competing on the English hunt seat team will be Jessica Ohlinger, Chrissie Kausrud, Bethany Ockwell, Katie Pohlman, Erin Verscheure and Sarah Winterroth. The hunt seat individual qualifiers are Olivia McConnell as the region's Cacchione Cup Qualifier, Ohlinger in open flat and Melissa McDonald in novice flat.

The dressage team will feature Courtney Previte (first level), Carly Trimble (upper training), Sierra Lindsey (lower training), and Monica Martineau (introductory).
