Sectional Boys Basketball: McComb advances
OTTAWA -- It wasn't flashy, but it was a win.

McComb slowly pulled away from Blanchard Valley Conference rival Pandora-Gilboa on its way to a 45-33 win over the Rockets in the Division IV boys sectional semifinals Tuesday at Ottawa-Glandorf.

The Panthers (14-9) will face Columbus Grove (15-7) in the sectional finals at 6:15 p.m. Friday also at Ottawa.

Clay Grubb put in a yeoman's effort for McComb, leading the Panthers with 11 points and five rebounds.

Jerry Brown, Dalton Buck and Clay Dysert each finished with nine points and four rebounds for the Panthers, who outscored the Rockets in each quarter.

Brian Schneck finished with nine points for Pandora-Gilboa (4-19). Seth Schmenk had nine rebounds for the Rockets, who held a 30-18 rebounding advantage in the game.

BUCYRUS -- Joe Reile's 3-pointer as time expired gave new life to Upper Sandusky's postseason hopes Tuesday as the Rams survived 55-52 over Shelby in the Division II boys basketball sectional semifinals at Bucyrus.

The Rams (13-10) will play for the sectional championship at 6:15 p.m. Friday against Lexington (15-7), also at Bucyrus.

Reile finished with a game-high 19 points. Trent Howard added 16 points and Stuart Young chipped in 12. Carson Mittermaier had five rebounds for Upper Sandusky.

Both teams combined to put on a shooting exhibition, with Upper finishing 17 of 33 (51.5 percent) from the floor, including 7 of 13 from behind the 3-point line. Shelby hit 22 of 43 (51.2 percent) of its field goal attempts.

Grant Kenner led four Shelby players in double figures with 12 points. Tristan Kehres, Andrew Baird and Austin Rohde had 10 points apiece for the Whippets (12-10).



OTTOVILLE 41

LIMA PERRY 35

VAN WERT -- Ryan Honigford and Brandt Landin combined for 20 points as Ottoville beat Lima Perry 41-35 Tuesday in a boys Division IV basketball sectional semifinal.

Ottoville (9-14) will play Convoy Crestview (19-3) at 6:15 p.m. Friday in the sectional finals at Van Wert.

Honigford and Landin scored 10 points each for Ottoville.

Jared Poling led Lima Perry (7-16) with 15 points.

KENTON -- Cody Seiler scored all eight of Ridgemont's points in the fourth quarter as the Golden Gophers outlasted Ada 46-45 in boys Division IV basketball sectional semifinals Tuesday.

Ridgemont (10-13) will play Arlington (17-5) at 6:15 p.m. Friday in the sectional finals at Kenton.

Seiler finished with 16 points and six rebounds, while Josh Corbin added 13 points and seven boards for Ridgemont. Tyler Tillman dished off eight assists.

Austin Dumbaugh hit a pair of 3-pointers during a fourth-quarter rally and finished with 14 points for Ada (6-16). Spencer Archer scored four of his 10 points in the final period.

Ada trailed early then came back to hold a 24-22 lead at halftime, but no team led by more than three points at the end of any quarter in the back-and-forth affair.

PAULDING -- Kalida was down but not out late in its Division IV boys basketball semifinal matchup with Ayersville.

Trailing 36-28 after the third quarter, the Wildcats outscored Ayersville 15-7 in the fourth to force overtime then went on a 7-4 run to claim a 50-47 win over the Pilots at Paulding.

With the win, Kalida (10-12) will play Edgerton (19-3) at 6:15 p.m. Friday for the sectional championship.

Austin Horstman scored five of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to help force overtime for Kalida. Cody Matthew scored all but two of his seven points in the fourth quarter as well. Devon Kortokrax finished with 11 points, five of which came in overtime, including going 3 of 4 from the free throw line.

Paced by Brayton Miller's 12 points, Ayersville (12-11) led 19-13 after the first period, 26-18 at halftime and 36-28 heading into the last eight minutes of regulation.

PATRICK HENRY 55

TONTOGANY -- No one will accuse Swanton of staging a free throw-shooting clinic Tuesday in its Division III boys basketball sectional semifinal against Patrick Henry. But the Bulldogs did enough, hitting 18 of 31 attempts, including 11 of 19 down the stretch to hold off stubborn Patrick Henry 61-55 at Otsego High.

Swanton (9-14) will face Archbold (16-4) at 8 p.m. Friday in the sectional title game, also in Tontogany.

Paul Kennedy scored 23 to lead the way for Swanton. Robbie Gilsdorf had 12 points and Rocky Robinson added 10 for the Bulldogs.

A.J. Wagner had 21 points for Patrick Henry (2-19). Jake Carrizales added 10 for the Patriots, who trailed by six at halftime, then rallied to pull within a field goal at 37-35 after three quarters. Five players scored during a 20-point Patrick Henry outburst in the fourth period.
