MAL Girls Basketball: Carey beats H-L, 66-37
BASCOM -- Sydney Wentling scored 17 points to lead Carey over Hopewell-Loudon 66-37 Thursday night in Midland Athletic League play.

Wentling made five 3-pointers as the Blue Devils shot 51 percent (24 of 47) from the floor and improved to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the MAL.

Hannah Tong and Ali Rymer added nine points apiece for Carey which outrebounded the Chieftains 38-18.

Cassandra Hohman led the Chieftains (5-5, 2-3 MAL) with 16 points and three steals.

Marissa Reinhart recorded three assists and Hope Brickner pulled down four rebounds.

NEW RIEGEL -- Mohawk made three 3-pointers and 5 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Warriors pulled away from New Riegel 45-33 Thursday in MAL girls basketball action.

Mohawk's win set up chaos atop the MAL. Tiffin Calvert is now the lone unbeaten (6-3 overall, 4-0) in the league. New Riegel (10-2, 4-1), Carey (9-1, 4-1) and Seneca East (7-3, 3-1) each have one league loss.

The game was deadlocked 17-17 at halftime and the Warriors led just 29-25 by the end of the third quarter.

Kasey Adelsperger led Mohawk (8-3, 3-2) with 16 points, while Ashley Parker, who hit two fourth quarter treys, finished with 11. Sarah Parker had seven rebounds.

New Riegel, which made just 7 of 40 shots during the final three quarters, was led by Kara Scherger's seven points. Lauren Ladd chipped in six points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

FREMONT -- Olivia Frost scored a game-high 19 points as North Baltimore held on for a 46-43 MAL victory Thursday in girls basketball action.

The Tigers (6-5, 2-2 MAL) held a comfortable 33-21 lead going into the fourth quarter, but nearly gave it up.

Megan Wright added nine points and seven rebounds, while Raegan Fleckner dished out five assists for North Baltimore, which forced the Crimson Streaks into 27 turnovers.

Jensen Lejeune paced Fremont St. Joseph (5-6, 1-3) with 11 points.

Sami Birkmire was 5 of 5 shooting from the field and 2 of 2 from the free throw line as she led St. Wendelin (6-5, 2-3) with 12 points. Colleen Fondessy and Kamryn Troike each contributed 10 points.

Stephanie Miller led Lakota (1-10, 0-5) with seven points. Katy Park snared 10 rebounds.
