BVC Girls Basketball: Liberty-Benton benefits from big second quarter
LEIPSIC -- One bad quarter spelled disaster for Leipsic Thursday night as the Vikings dropped a 51-41 Blanchard Valley Conference girls basketball game to Liberty-Benton.

A 20-4 edge in the second quarter helped the Eagles (9-3, 4-1 BVC) secure the win.

Katie Simon did a little bit of everything for Liberty-Benton scoring 16 points with seven rebounds and two steals. Rachel Myers tossed in 13 points.

Leipsic's Amber Gerdeman led all scorers with 20 points.

VAN BUREN 36

ARLINGTON -- Locked in a tight battle throughout the first half, Arlington turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter to pull away from Van Buren 53-36 in girls Blanchard Valley Conference basketball.

Leading 26-21 at halftime, the Red Devils (10-3, 4-1 BVC) managed nine steals and forced Van Buren (2-3, 3-9) into 20 turnovers, many of which came in the decisive third quarter where Arlington outscored the Black Knights 20-3.

Dani Heaster had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Arlington. Erica O'Rear and Morgan Insley each added 11 points. Kathryn Jolliff had seven assists and four steals against Van Buren.

Kaleigh Frampton led the Black Knights with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Morgan Flick added four assists.

HARDIN NORTHERN 18

DOLA -- Megan Maag and Keri Conine combined for 41 points and 23 rebounds as Pandora-Gilboa easily dispatched Hardin Northern 59-18 on Thursday in BVC girls basketball.

Maag finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds and Conine added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Rockets (3-8, 2-2 BVC).

Kylee Hooker had seven points and Brianna Campbell pulled down five rebounds for Hardin Northern (1-8, 0-4).

The Polar Bears found it to be tough sledding from the field, hitting just 5 of 31 (16 percent) attempts, while P-G took 68 shots, hitting on 26 (38 percent).

VANLUE 38

VANLUE -- Vanlue led at halftime before Cory-Rawson righted the ship in the second half to knock off the Wildcats 45-38 in Thursday's Blanchard Valley Conference girls basketball game.

Vanlue (4-9, 0-5 BVC) led 24-19 at halftime before the Hornets (6-8, 1-4) outgunned the Wildcats 26-14 in the second half.

Courtney Dulle scored 16 points and grabbbed six steals and Kiley Scott netted 15 points to lead the Hornets.

Kate Clymer knocked down 15 points and Haley Bonham picked off 10 rebounds for Vanlue.
