Boys Basketball: Powers, Wentling power Carey, 62-57
CAREY -- Bryan Powers and Jared Wentling combined for 42 points and Carey got by Seneca East 62-57 Thursday in a key Midland Athletic League boys basketball matchup.

With the win, the Blue Devils remain in contention for the MAL crown.

Carey (10-3, 5-1 MAL) is one game behind league leaders New Riegel (13-1, 6-0) and Old Fort (14-1, 6-0). The Blue Devils are tied with Fremont St. Joseph (10-3, 5-1) in third place.

Powers had a monster effort for the Blue Devils as he made six two-point field goals, four treys and three free throws en route to a game-high 27 points. Wentling added 15 points and seven rebounds for Carey, which was 8 of 19 from beyond the arc.

Ethan Caudill scored 16 points to pace Seneca East (8-4, 3-3). Nate Phillips and Ben Hahler added 13 points apiece for the Tigers.

NEW RIEGEL -- Brandon Reinhart dropped 23 points as New Riegel dominated North Baltimore 74-44 Thursday in boys basketball Midland Athletic League play.

Reinhart led the Blue Jackets (13-1, 6-0 MAL) with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Dryfuse dropped 18 points while Korey Williams scored 12 points.

Jacob Frost led the Tigers (1-13, 1-5) with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

BASCOM -- Hopewell-Loudon had four different players score double figures as the Chieftains defeated St. Wendelin 60-44 Thursday night in a Midland Athletic League boys basketball game.

Ryan Lammerse led the Chieftains (7-7, 3-3 MAL) with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Adam Black contributed with 13 points and a team-leading eight boards. Brock Hill added 12 points and six rebounds, and Alec Gregg added 11 points.

Gabe Walters had a team-high 11 points for the Mohawks (4-8, 1-5). Zack Miller chimed in with 11 points.
