CATHOLIC 43 LIMA -- A strong second and third quarter proved vital for Ada in a 44-43 victory over Lima Central Catholic on Thursday night in a tight Northwest Conference girls basketball game. Down by five after one quarter, the Bulldogs (9-6, 4-1 NWC) outscored the Thunderbirds (6-8, 2-3) 24-18 in the second and third quarters to earn the victory. Taylor Willeke and Tori Wyss led the Bulldogs with 15 points each. Meredith Shepherd led the Thunderbirds with 17 points. Sydney Mohler addded eight points. ALLEN EAST 54 BLUFFTON 52 BLUFFTON -- A fourth-quarter rally wasn't enough for Bluffton's girls Thursday as the Pirates fell out of first place in the Northwest Conference with a 54-52 loss at home to Allen East. The Pirates, who shared first place with Convoy Crestview entering the game, fell to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the NWC. Paige Buroker tossed in 18 points and Sarah Schriner added 10 for Bluffton as the Pirates closed the gap on the Mustangs with an 18-13 edge in the fourth quarter. Carly Clum scored 14 points, Erin Conkle netted 13 and Morgan Truex chipped in 10 for the Mustangs (7-7, 3-2 NWC).
