Prep Softball: New Riegel's Kirian slugs state-record 17th home run
NEW RIEGEL -- New Riegel's Taylor Kirian tied the state single-season record with her 17th home run and pitched a five-inning no-hitter on Tuesday in powering the Blue Jackets to a 16-0 Midland Athletic League romp over Bettsville.

Kirian also doubled and drove in five runs as New Riegel, 20-7 overall, finished third (9-2) in the MAL standings.

Her 17th home run of the season tied the record set by Buckeye Central's Melissa Hoffbauer in 2010.

Morgan Noftz had a double and two singles and drove in three runs.

Lauren Zoeller (2-1B, RBI) and Hailey Theis (2B, 1B, RBI) had two hits as well for the Blue Jackets, who will face McComb today at 5 p.m. in the Division IV district semifinals at Findlay High.

ARLINGTON -- Six Arlington players had at least two hits and the Red Devils beat Bluffton 10-3 Tuesday in nonconference softball play.

Hannah Johnson and Ashley Russell each drilled a triple and a single and drove in two runs to lead Arlington. Kathryn Jolliff and Dani Heaster each added two-run home runs.

Katie Palte (2B) and Cheyenne Treen (1B, RBI) paced the Pirates (8-15).

MOUNT BLANCHARD -- Brittany Wetherill doubled and Taylor Farmer had an RBI-single as Riverdale fell 13-2 to Colonel Crawford in a North Central Conference softball game Tuesday.

Leianna Massie was a home run short of the cycle for the Eagles.
