BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Despite leading at halftime, the University of Findlay women's basketball team struggled in the second half and came up short against Ferris State Thursday night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action, falling 74-62 at Jim Wink Arena.

The Oilers (5-4, 4-3 GLIAC) led 29-22 against the Bulldogs (3-4, 3-2) in the first half but shot just 30.6 percent in the second half and allowed Ferris State to open the second half with a 15-0 run to take control as it surged to a 37-29 lead with 15:39 remaining in the game.

Ciara Geiger ended the run with a 3-pointer, and while the Oilers did get as close as 51-48 with 6:54 to play in the game on a layup by Geiger, they were unable to get the momentum back and avoid their third consecutive loss in conference play.

UF's overall losing streak sits at two games.

Findlay trailed 16-11 midway through the first half after a jumper by Dena Droste but was able to take the lead at 21-20 when Karli Bonar nailed a trey with 3:19 left.

Droste gave the Bulldogs the lead back momentarily on a layup but Karli Beasley answered with a 3-pointer to put UF in front 24-22.

The Oilers closed the half with a layup by former Riverdale standout Lacey Kessler to take a seven-point lead into the break.

It didn't take long for the Bulldogs to take control in the second half, as the Oilers opened with a turnover and missed three 3-pointers during FSU's 15-0 run.

Kessler and Geiger scored 12 points apiece for the Oilers, who shot 32.4 percent (22 of 68) from the field and went 9 of 38 from beyond the arc. Margaret Wuebker was the only starter in double figures as she scored 10 points.

Ferris State shot 47.4 percent (27 of 57) from the field and got 28 points out of Droste. April Watson came off the bench and finished with 16 points.

UF will try and bounce back Saturday when it battles Grand Valley State in a 1 p.m. GLIAC game at the GVSU Fieldhouse in Allendale, Mich. The Lakers (6-3, 4-1) defeated Hillsdale 80-69 on Thursday.
